On this day: Marilyn Monroe had flown out to NY on 17th May 1962 to rehearse for JFK’s Birthday Gala at Madison Square Garden. On 19th May 1962, Peter Lawford presents Marilyn on stage, but she was late coming out, so he introduces her as the ‘Late Marilyn Monroe’. Marilyn sang ‘Happy Birthday to You’ in her sultry voice and inserted ‘Mr President’ as insisted as Kennedy’s name. She continued the song with a snippet from the song ‘Thanks for the memory’.
